Emeka Okereke (b. 1980) is an Igbo-Nigerian visual artist and writer who lives and works between Africa and Europe, frequently moving between Lagos and Berlin. He first encountered photography in 2001 and was a founding member of the renowned Nigerian photography collective, Depth of Field (DOF).

Okereke’s multidisciplinary practice spans photography, video, poetry, and performative interventions, with a central focus on themes of borders, exchange, and coexistence within socio-cultural confluences. His work often grapples with the dynamics of difference and interconnectedness, exploring these through artistic and conceptual frameworks. Additionally, he is deeply involved in project organizing, curating cross-cultural exchanges that bridge indigenous and international platforms.

In 2008, he organized the first photographic exchange between the Fine Art School of Paris and Yaba College of Technology in Lagos, later expanding this initiative with projects such as Crossing Compasses: Lagos-Berlin Photo Exchange and Converging Visions: Nigeria-Netherlands Photo Exchange (2012).

Okereke is the Founder and Artistic Director of Invisible Borders: The Trans-African Project, a platform that fosters dialogue and artistic exploration across the African continent and beyond.

His accolades include the AFAA “Afrique en Création” award at the 5th Bamako Encounters Photography Biennale (2003). He holds a Bachelor’s/Master’s degree from the National Fine Art School of Paris and has exhibited extensively at biennales and art festivals globally, including Lagos, Bamako, Cape Town, Berlin, Brussels, New York, Paris, and the 56th Venice Biennale, where he curated and presented A Trans-African Worldspace under the Invisible Borders platform.
